The combination of the DS1874 with a MAX3798 or MAX3799 laser driver/limiting amplifier provides a low-cost option for APC loop control, modulation current control, and eye-safety functionality, Maxim says. The chipset eliminates the need for software development, thus reducing cost and speeding time to market, the company adds. The DS1874 monitors six analog channels -- temperature, Vcc, and MON1-MON4, -- which can be used to meet all monitoring requirements. Laser modulation is controlled by a temperature-driven LUT to compensate for tracking error. Two DAC outputs with 36-entry LUTs are provided for additional monitoring and control functionality. The DS1874 uses 0.35-micrometer technology to enable the implementation of all SFF-8472 functionality in its 5x5-mm, 28-pin TQFN package with exposed pad.
